Testing embedded code snippets …

//this should be rendered as code

Dion, the CODE tag only works in UPPER CASE whereas [code] won't. Made me stumble for a minute thinking what am I doing wrong! :) It might be better if the syntax highlighter supported lowercase too.

Markdown syntax for quoted text is supposed to be a greater than symbol at the start of each line …

Some more formatting options:

Use ` backquotes` to get fixed font.
The same effect with a HTML <tt> tag:

A line with <tt>teletype or fixed width</tt> words.

Some more color with <font color=red>red words</font> and <font color=green>green words.</font>

A nice table with all available color names can be found at www.w3schools.com

You can have<pre>preformatted text over
several lines</pre>embedded in your text.
